Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry

Background

  1. After Burma’s Independent Period, it was not organized as one Ministry, at 1952, namely Ministry of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Industry and Labour, Ministry of Industry and Mining and before 1972 there were Ministry of National Planning and Ministry of Finance and Revenue as a separated three ministries.
  2. Before 1972, there were (5) departments/organizations in Ministry of National Planning. Main functions of Ministry of National Planning were analyzing State’s economical contracts and agreements, negotiating plans with other Ministries and coordinating with foreign countries for incorporation of economy, aids, assistance and United Nation’s aid and experts.
  3. Ministry of Finance and Revenue was established with (17) departments/ enterprises/organizations including Account Offices (Audit) to develop Myanma monetary system and economy prior to 1972.
  4. Ministry of National Planning and Ministry of Finance and Revenue combined as a Ministry of Planning and Finance and the name of Ministry of Industry change to the Ministry of Industry by notification No(1) on March 16, 1972, in accordance with implementing new administrative system in Myanmar in 1972, Revolutionary Council Period.  
  5. In 1975, Ministry of Industry had reformed into two ministries namely, Ministry of Industry No.1 and Ministry of Industry No. 2 by the Government of the Socialist Republic of the Union of Myanmar on 1st April 1975, with the notification No.(3) on March 29, 1975.
  6. In 1993, Ministry of Planning and Finance had divided into two ministries namely, Ministry of National Planning and Economics Development and Ministry of Finance and Revenue. There were (7) departments/ organizations under the Ministry of National Planning and Economics Development and (12) departments / enterprises / organizations including Central Bank under the Ministry of Finance and Revenue.
  7. The Ministry of Industry No.1 and the Ministry of Industry No. 2 combined again as a Ministry of Industry, with the approval of the Cabinet meeting No(13/2012) of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on March 29, 2012. There were 3 Directorates, 6 Enterprises and 2 Central Departments, a total of 11 Departments in Ministry of Industry on April 4, 2012.
  8. In 2013, Ministry of Finance and Revenue had changed its name to Ministry of Finance. Central Bank of Myanmar has formed separately from Ministry of Finance. There were (13) departments/organizations/ enterprises in Ministry of Finance.
  9. In 2016, new government had desire to combine ministries which functions are related to each other. Therefore Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development and Ministry of Finance combined again as a Ministry of Planning and Finance. There were (20) departments/organizations/ enterprises in Ministry of Planning and Finance. Ministry of Industry had reorganized with (2) Directorates and (4) Enterprises by the approval of Cabinet meeting No (15/2016) of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar on November (10), 2016.
  10. On December 28, 2018, Foreign Economic Relations Department (FERD) and Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA) of the Ministry of Planning and Finance were moved to the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations. So, there were (18) departments/ organizations/ enterprises in the Ministry of Planning and Finance.
  11. On November 29, 2019, the Ministry of Planning and Finance and Ministry of Industry combined as a Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry. Therefore, there are (25) departments/ organizations/ enterprises including the Union Minister’s Office under the Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry.​​​​​​​
